WHAT IS WINTERIZATION CREW?

WHAT DOES CREW DO?

There are four different committees that make up CREW--our members divide and conquer the planning of Winterization based on how they are interested in serving! Each committee is responsible for a different area of Winterization logistics and is chaired by an individual to lead their area of expertise.

VOLUNTEERS:

  • Designing and hanging flyers, chalking, coordinating with campus organizations (religious groups, sororities/frats, clubs, etc.) about volunteering for Winterization, contacting local newspapers/television stations to arrange interviews and articles.

  • Without our volunteer committee, we would not have enough manpower to serve all our residents!

RESIDENTS:

  • Sending and entering of post cards sent to previously served residents, outreaching and recruiting of local residents who could use help this fall, making phone calls and sending emails to residents to confirm their information.

  • Our residents committee is our bridge between our student volunteers and the surrounding community!

WORK TEAMS:

  • Work Teams is special as they have their own sub-committees. These sub-committees include:

    • Supplies:  This subcommittee records current supply list (supplies include: rakes, tarps, ladders, clippers, newspapers, spray bottles, etc.), contacts organizations and businesses for additional donations, responsible for monitoring supply use, and making sure all borrowed supplies are returned.

    • Mapping: This subcommittee uses an online program to plot each house we will be servicing, allowing us to send enough manpower to each resident to finish their Winterizing on time. Proficiency with computers is a must, excessive use of Excel and mapping software (which we will teach you).

    • SAG (Supplies and Gear): This subcommittee is responsible for coordinating our SAG vehicles which drop off supplies such as ladders, tree loppers, or extra bags to volunteers at residents houses.

  • Winterization would not run if Work Teams wasn't around to coordinate the logistics of such a large event!

FOOD

  • In order to provide free snack bag and lunch to all volunteers, members of the Food committee are responsible for acquiring food donations from local businesses, contacting businesses via phone, and preparing the appropriate amount of food to be served to volunteers.

  • Our food committee helps us give back to our wonderful volunteers in a big way with their homecooked meals!

COORDINATORS:

  • Our coordinators are chosen from previous Winterization CREW members who have served for at least one year to be leaders for the event. Every year, one rising-Junior is chosen to work with the rising-Senior coordinator on planning next years event.

  • Coordinator responsibilities include collaborating with the committees to ensure tasks get done on time, sending mass emails to residents and volunteers, and coordinating day-of-logistics and overall event planning.
